Another time my sister Sue and I each got baby dolls for Christmas, and one day Daddy told us we'd better check those baby's diapers. When we did, we found out he had put mustard in them! We squealed and got busy cleaning it up.

My Papa Sumners made us wooden doll beds for them, and Mother made clothes. She took a pair of Daddy's old khaki wool pants, and made them little coats with sashes and boots to match.

Snow flakes

(Mom again)
One time, when I was in about the third grade, it started snowing while I was at school. Our teacher had us put on our coats and go outside with magnifying glasses to look at the snowflakes. I was wearing a red coat with a blue velvet collar. As the snowflakes fell on my coat, the teacher had everyone gather around to look at them because they showed up so well. It made me feel so important.

When I was in college, I took a class with a professor whom my friends and I quickly discovered was easy to distract by telling a good story. So began our inside joke of beginning a story with "One time, when I was little..." I've recently become increasingly aware of the need to write down my family stories, so that's why I started this new blog!
My first story will be from my Mom:

"When I was growing up, our whole family always went outside after supper and sat in chairs and talked. One time, we went outside and talked so long it got dark. Daddy told me to run inside and turn on the lights. My sister Sue and I went inside, and I thought it would be funny to scream to play a joke on her. Well, when I screamed, Sue screamed, so I thought she must have seen something I didn't, so I screamed again. That's when Daddy came running in and found us both screaming and chewed us out."
